The Drift

The Drift is the video component of The Driftwood, the student newspaper for UNO.  Students will gain valuable experience on quick turnaround video and editing.  They will learn to work with a video crew from project concept to completion.  Emphasis will be placed on news judgment, story development, writing a script, directing and teamwork.

Internship Duties

  • Create weekly video features to showcase various aspects of university lfe

  • Will work under the editor-in-chief.

  • Will attending weekly meetings, develope video concepts, shoot and edit videos

  • Will meet bi-weekly with faculty advisor to the Drift

Ochsner Creative Media - Production Intern

The Creative Media team at Ochsner Health System handles the video production needs of the entire organization for both internal and external audiences. Examples of projects include television/radio commercials, "Patient Stories" (first-hand, non-fictional accounts of the patient experience at Ochsner), health education videos, health-related in-studio talk shows, and live event production.  

Internship Duties

  • Help set up lights, cameras and sound on location shoots

  • Help with set design, lighting and camera operating on studio shoots

UNO Instructional Media and Technology (Media Resources)

Media Resources is the section of the Univ. of New Orleans IT Department that assists with audio and visual needs across campus. Including assisting professors with operating the equipment in our special media rooms, recording and editing interviews, supplying and setting up equipment for special events, and live streaming or recording these special events.

Intern Tasks

                The intern will be helping with assisting professors and faculty members with AV needs and helping with the recordings of interviews and events.

Basic skills required:

NOLA Weekend is FOX 8’s home for hyper-local lifestyle, event and community content. We use creative storytelling via our digital platform to inform our audience about the top stories on food, features, events, festivals, music and attractions in the New Orleans area. Here's what to expect from a Nola Weekend Internship

 

If you’re interested in creative storytelling on a digital platform, then this is a great opportunity to explore. Students will observe the day-to-day operations of digital content production for FOX 8’s NOLA Weekend website. Interns will get a front row seat during the digital storytelling process from concept development to post-production. This can include content brainstorming, developing production ideas, coordinating on and off site shoots, logging production material, writing and editing content, website content management and social media promotion. This internship may include some field experience with digital content producers to observe production development, photography and interview skills.

Editorial Writing/Content Curation Intern

 

The editorial writing/content curation intern will work with staff as a creative storyteller to research, organize, write and curate content for web articles. The ideal candidate will have interest in local lifestyle content, including events, travel, restaurants, food and drink, nightlife and festivals. The intern will also help with curating viral content to drive traffic and engage the Nola Weekend web audience. You'll be assigned article topics, but may also have the chance to pitch what interests you. Student must demonstrate great writing ability, good news judgment, knowledge of grammar rules and AP style.

 

Video Production Intern

 

The video production intern will gain hands-on experience while working with staff as a visual storyteller to shoot and edit video content for Nola Weekend. The student will help produce local lifestyle video content including events, restaurants, food and drinks, nightlife and festivals. Responsibilities can include coordinating on and off site shoots, logging interviews, assisting with shoots, assisting/producing Facebook live videos, producing social media content, shooting and editing video content. Student must demonstrate previous editing experience.

 

Digital Photo Intern

 

The digital photo intern will work with staff to develop creative assets and provide still images for use in video, articles and on social media. This student will be a creative storyteller through the camera lens to cover local lifestyle photography including events, restaurants, food and drinks, nightlife and festivals. The intern will also help with social media efforts on Facebook and Instagram to pick excellent photos and write witty captions that will engage our Nola Weekend audience. Student must demonstrate previous skill working behind the camera.
